Good day to you all,

I am the father of a 23 year old son recently diagnosed with BPD.  Six months ago he moved back in with me, my wife, and my 19 year old daughter, and life has been a roller coaster ride ever since.  I have my own mental health challenges as I cope with reoccurring bouts of clinical depression.

Let's just say that living with BPD doesn't really help reduce my levels of suicidal ideation.  I am, however, currently in treatment with what I hope will turn out to be a good therapist, but right now both life and the future definitely look fairly bleak.

At the present I don't know how much help I can be to anyone here but I'll certainly throw my two cents in if I feel like I have something to offer.

May we all find peace someday, Dan

Welcome Dan

My son is 25 and was diagnosed 5 months ago. He also returned home recently mid-Dec 15.

I'm glad you're in treatment and life must be challenging for you all. Somehow life wasn't supposed to be this way!

I've found the information top right very helpful. Our relationship with BPDs is much improved when we changed our approach from being accusing. Still very early days and still learning. No quick fixes.

Take care

Hello Blackgog199,

Welcome among us! Being a parent to a person w/BPD is really tough and can be very draining... .It's great that you are in therapy, that's good news!

Keep coming and sharing it can help get things off your chest and/or get ideas from different perspectives. We're here to support one other on this journey.

Hey, Dan.

Fairly new here myself and I completely understand the tone of your post and where you're coming from.  Our 20 yo son just came back home after being across the country for a year.  It was SO much easier long-distance!  His circumstances changed and now I feel like we might be back where we started.  It causes me to get extremely anxious and my mood can completely plummet.  But, I have to say the thing that's different is the info I now have access to here.  Lollypop is right about the tools on the right of this page.  I can't control much, but how I react or don't react seems to make a big difference and it wasn't like that a year ago.  Please continue to take care of yourself for your wife and daughter AND your son!  They all need you and you certainly deserve peace and happiness.
