Hi all , apologies for not posting in a while . Life has gone completely crazy over recent months , very painful for us all  just think drug bust , pending court date , fallout with boyfriend due to lying and cheating , rages due to privileges being removed , combined with coming off mood stabilizers which in hindsight did NOT go well = yet another suicide attempt by overdose and 6th hospitalization in the last 16 months  . I know you'll all get the picture x
We have learned that the Midwest center for youth and family in Indiana have a specialist DBT / BPD program for 12-20 year old girls and this program is actually in our insurance network . Just wondering if anyone has heard of or had experience with this particular RTC ? Still hopeful that it won't come to that but I want to be armed with information just in case . We are giving it one last shot following the recent addition of a substance abuse counsellor together with a specialist DBT psychologist ( Intensively trained in DBT... finally found one !) who will provide the structured DBT as it should be aka Marsha linehan model with the telephone coaching too . Ever hopeful but I know we literally have one year left now before my DD reaches the dreaded 18 years old

Our objective is to better understand the struggles our child faces and to learn the skills to improve our relationship and provide a supportive environment and also improve on our own emotional responses, attitudes and effectiveness as a family leaders

I haven't had any experience with the RTC you mention and someone responds who might be.

6 hospitalizations in 16 months is a lot

What is the decision point for RTC? To see if D17 connects with the substance abuse counselor and specialist DBT psychologist?

Hi lived   yep pretty much . Going to give it a wee while to see if the psychologist and substance abuse counselor can turn this around. Also , the dr who she was seen by during her most recent hospitalization a couple of weeks ago also said that if she comes in again , then she'll be pushing her into RTC . There aren't any good ones here in Colorado though so we would definitely be looking out of state

Yep I am sorry you are going thru yet another crisis.  I do not have information about this RTC, but can only tell you to do your homework, see what people are saying on line, visit the facility, meet with staff, etc.  We visited many programs prior to finding the match for our D. It is a difficult spot to be in, particularly since that magic age of 18 is lurking.

Do you have a CMO (care manager) thru your county in Colorado?  I'm not sure how the mental health system works out there, but only in my state for which are care manager lead the way and was truly an integral piece to this puzzle.

Hi bright day , I don't think there is a similar system here regarding case management . I wish there was ! Im so exhausted by this disease

I have a D14 who is in need of RTC and we looked at this facility, at least on paper (we haven't visited it). We really need a RTC targeted to BPD so a DBT based program is important, as well as a strong family component. Given her ongoing issues (9 hospitalizations - 2 in the past month- in past 18 months, plus 5 months RTC, 2 attempted overdoses, significant SIB, intelligent but a slower cognitive processing seems to be complicating things, etc) we are concerned that the length of stay isn't going to be sufficient. Of the RTCs that looked most applicable, like Midwest and Timberline Knolls near Chicago, the average length of stay is 30-60 days and have more availability. My D14 will take 30 days to just relax and start trusting the staff. I'm not sure if this is just our daughter or if others also have this concern. I would love to hear from others on this.

This doesn't address the uncertainty with insurance paying for a longer stay, which we're also trying to figure out so we can keep her there as long as she needs.
