Before you can make things better, you have to stop making them worse... Have you considered that being critical, judgmental, or invalidating toward the other parent, no matter what she or he just did will only make matters worse? Someone has to be do something. This means finding the motivation to stop making things worse, learning how to interrupt your own negative responses, body language, facial expressions, voice tone, and learning how to inhibit your urges to do things that you later realize are contributing to the tensions.

Our pet bunny (dwarf rabbit) has BPD. I'm kidding of course, but here's the story.

Older female bunny picks on male bunny #1 that has been with her her entire life. He sits and takes it. Male bunny #1 gets sick and dies. Female bunny comforts him during his last days and seems to miss him.

After a while, we take female bunny to meet a new cage mate. During the introduction, she is as sweet as can be. We bring the new bunny home thinking we are helping.

Female bunny is initially nice but soon she attacks. Male bunny #2 has no clue what's going on.  We remove male bunny #2 and every time we try to reintroduce him, she eventually attacks.

I've started talking to male bunny #2 about boundaries.  Smiling (click to insert in post)

This provided a much needed laugh.  Thanks.

Hmmmmmm.  Now I'm starting to psychoanalyze my beagles.  Smiling (click to insert in post)
