My now 23 year old daughter was diagnosed with BPD about two years ago but has suffered from its symptoms since 2010. Childhood trauma was considered the cause and she has been in therapy since she was 10 years old. In addition to this, she suffers from an eating disorder and has been admitted twice into residential treatment. In fact, it was during this residential treatment she was diagnosed with BPD.

She was recently hospitalized for three days for not managing her diet, glucose (Type I diabetic) and for being severely dehydrated. She continues to suffer from both BPD and her eating disorder and her therapist and nutritionist have recommended she return to an inpatient setting but this time with a focus on her BPD (considered a likely cause of her eating disorder) using trauma therapy, DBT and Internal Family Systems therapy (never heard of that one before). My daughter has always thrived in an inpatient setting but then begins to falter once discharged.

The recommended facility is Upstate N.Y. Eating Disorder Service. They obviously focus on eating disorders but in speaking with them, use the treatments above to address BPD.

Could you comment on whether you have heard of Upstate N.Y. Eating Disorder Service and your experience with them. I would also appreciate recommendations for other facilities that have worked for you.

Thanks so much.

I am sorry but I have not heard of that facility. Have you looked at Timberline Knolls? www.timberlineknolls.com... .I have heard good things about this place and at one time we were considering it but they seem to focus a lot of eating disorder so we did not go forward. Good luck with your search.
