Hello, I'm new here. I have a 28 yr old daughter with diagnoses of BPD traits, bipolar disorder and substance abuse. She tried in-patient, out patient and partial hospitalization last year before finally going to a residential treatment facility in Arizona. She was there for a month, but they really focused her therapy on the substance abuse with very little attention to the mood disorders.
She is married with a 1 yr old and a 3 yr old. Her husband is supportive but has started a new business and works some long, odd hours. Long story short; she's a mess again and is considering residential treatment. Insurance will likely be an issue since it is private insurance. But having said that no one wants to send her somewhere that won't focus on the mood issues. Does anyone out there have good experience with any of these places?  Thanks for listening.

Hi Paris,

Welcome to bpdfamily Smiling (click to insert in post)

It takes a lot of courage for your D28 to reach out for help and seek support. I hope she finds the right combination of services with your help.

I'm not familiar with RTC in Arizona, tho there are some member-created resources that might be useful:

Hi Paris56,

Welcome

But having said that no one wants to send her somewhere that won't focus on the mood issues.

Dr Robert O. Friedel, had a sister, her name was Denise and while she was growing up through adulthood, she was never treated for BPD, they didn't know how to treat it back then. Dr Robert O. Friedel developed effective treatment for BPD, in his book BPD Demystified he says that they want to treat the depression first because it can lessen the BPD symptoms, it's easier to treat the disorder if depression is under control.
