Before you can make things better, you have to stop making them worse... Have you considered that being critical, judgmental, or invalidating toward the other parent, no matter what she or he just did will only make matters worse? Someone has to be do something. This means finding the motivation to stop making things worse, learning how to interrupt your own negative responses, body language, facial expressions, voice tone, and learning how to inhibit your urges to do things that you later realize are contributing to the tensions.

I am visiting family away from home... .I am still exercising and trying to eat right... .maybe being away from home is doing some of this, I'm not sure what, but I've just been chemically off today... .I'm looking forward to feeling better and any words of encouragement would be appreciated... .I'm missing my ex, maybe because she used to always go on these trips with me and was a good distraction and friend during these times... .I love my family, but maybe I'm just used to her being around, I don't know... .I just want a best friend again, looking to find it in myself these days, but it's not quite the same... .sorry for being so bleh, I'll come around soon enough... .peace love and virtue to all... .

You know the weirdest thing about this whole process? When I feel good or am in a good spot my first thought will sometimes go to "geez I wish I could tell her this good news or I wish she could be here to share this experience with me."

Which is normal. An addiction always starts off as something fun. So it's still there in our brains. It's why "fun stuff" in the beginning can actually make us feel sad or create a longing.

Keep your head up. You've helped me numerous times. You're a great guy who truly cares about people. Thats something to be proud of.

Hi Emotions,

It's normal for anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, family get aways to be challenging when you go through all of them in the first year after your break-up, it's easier the second year because you've already gone through it the year before and you're more used to being by yourself, I mean in the context that your single and not in another r/s.

Thankfully the board is 24/7/365, you can start a discussion, join another discussion, reading about BPD can help, there's a lot of material here on the site. You can log onto the site when you're not feeling OK and you can interact with others when you're away from home.

Keep your head up. You are better without the ex. I feel for you. I have been down too. Stay strong. You have this! Things will eventually turn around.
