My young adult daughter has bad traits. She’s also been diagnosed as having bipolar2 disorder. Life isn’t easy & I’m wearing down.

Hi Quiltzz
Dealing with a child with BPD (traits) can be quite challenging indeed and really take its toll on you. I am sorry this situation is wearing you down so.
In what ways is life not easy with your daughter? Does she live with you?
Your daughter has also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, is she receiving any kind of treatment for this?

She’s been in & out of facilities for a few years. She is medicated & does receive therapy. She’s 21 & living at home. She threatens to harm herself if she doesn’t like something my hubby or I suggest or ask her to do. We’re walking on egg shells trying to prevent triggering a blow up.

Hi again Quiltzz,
Thanks for answering my questions. Do you feel like her therapy and medication have been helpful in any way? Have you seen any improvements in her behavior in these last few years?
I can definitely understand why you say you're walking on egg shells, it isn't easy dealing with threats of self-harm. Has she as far as you know ever engaged in any actual self-harming behaviors? Is she also being treated for her self-harm tendencies?
As you find your way here, I encourage you to take a look at the tools and lessons in the right-hand side margin of this board. These resources might help you in your interactions with your daughter.
Take care
