Hi!  My daughter has been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can help her?  She is in  a program that specializes in this now.  I would like to learn more about this and what is helpful with this.  I feel like she continues to repeat the same poor choices over and over again regardless of the consequences.  I honestly don't understand.  Is there any hope in sight?

Our objective is to better understand the struggles our child faces and to learn the skills to improve our relationship and provide a supportive environment and also improve on our own emotional responses, attitudes and effectiveness as a family leaders

Welcome,  Welcome new member (click to insert in post)
So glad you reached out here, you are absolutely in the right place to begin to understand about Borderline Personality Disorder, what your daughter may be experiencing and get support and resources for yourself.  This is a top notch resource for understanding BPD, clinicians consult here, it has oversight, it is safe and reliable.

There are a huge amount of resources here to learn if one wants to, but it can get overwhelming.  I am plowing through and i am overwhelmed!  There is a post at the top of this page that says how to make the best use of this site, which helps to simplify it.

Most of us really appreciate not feeling so alone in this, and make use of posting to each other along with learning.

So glad you are here, don't hesitate to ask for what you need.  It is often a scary time with diagnosis you did the right thing finding support.

How long will your daughter be treatment?  Yes unfortunately making poor choices over and over without regard to consequences is something that often happens with people with BPD (pwBPD).

Whew! daughter in treatment, good work, hope you can rest too.  It is exhausting.

With Respect, DG

Hello and Welcome

I'm here to say there absolutely is hope, dd1931. I'm glad you found us. It's great your DD is in a specialized program, and that you're wanting to learn all you can about BPD. As DharmaGate says, this place is a great resource with a tremendous amount of information. Take it at your own pace and post here with any questions.

How old is your DD? What led up to the diagnosis? Is she accepting of it and the treatment plan?

If you could share a little bit more, the behaviors you find most challenging, it will help us know how to best support you.

I hope you settle in and become part of the family here. We understand better than anyone else does and we are here to travel with you on this journey.

~ OH
