How did you find BPD behavior child therapist?

Hello to all. First therapist we found in crisis was community based short term. They were awesome and extended services until I could find new therapy. Second therapist was seen 4 times with no family involvement, no care plan, no feedback. Daughter was sitting for Psych/Neuro testing in same facility for first dx. During search for new placement crisis happened and first inpatient hospitalization forced me to find a therapist appointment fast for discharge. Third therapist, 4 visits, denied access to DBT group as "her maladaptive behaviors aren't appropriate for group", triangulation and distortion creating further issues rather than helping. It is clear he is in over his head, yet it is also clear he is willing to play along for the approved $6000.00 insurance benefits. How did you screen/interview for appropriate fit? Skip the lcsw/lcps route and go right for a clinical psychologist? Advise greatly appreciated.

Hello MM,
I am thinking a good place to start is your insurance provider? That is how we found services for our son (although he chooses not to use them at this point)

Hi MM,
We were looking for DBT therapy for my 16yoD I started by looking through my insurance company - I found a couple, but after doing a little more research they were not actually practicing DBT.
I ended up finding a great DBT practice through the NEABPD website. We are very fortunate to live in an area of the country with a lot of resources.

It is out of network, however we have been able to get some reimbursement.

Thanks for the support. Insurance lists have not been helpful. Endless phone calls, most either no longer in-network or require admittance to their program IOP/PHP which many have denied service.Case manager inpatient advised not to give them certain information in the future (lie). The latest therapist was on the list and she was denied access to DBT group for "maladaptive behaviors". I am ok with out-of network. NEABPD I left message and am scheduled for intensive Family Connections weekend I have found several options but they are all self-pay. I am finding this with psychiatry also... $475 for 15 minutes visits. The first and only IOP we tried, I found her alone in dark parking lot released early her first night. Operating with a phone number out of Vietnam, did not have services/psych offered and billed for services rx/labs/psych she did not receive from the "medical director" MD who is an opthamologist. The mental health system causes mental health issues for the healthy I do believe!

Hi MM,
I believe that BPD in Adolescence by Blaise Aguirre may have a list of referrals at the end of his book? Or maybe it's a section that discusses how best to find the right provider. I can't remember exactly...
I think he's based at MacLean's in Massachusetts and that might also be another resource for referrals.

Thank you for your support. Dr. Aguirre is my go to source and I just ordered that book this morning and downloaded it. I would already be at McLean if they accepted insurance. I am not in the financial position to put up $60,000 cash to start. Yikes. I am registered for Family Connections Intensive Weekend end of May so I am hoping for some leads then if not sooner. I really don't want to keep bouncing around with therapy. I saw the first glimmer of progress while daughter was inpatient with DBT and I don't want to wait another day to get her the care she needs and deserves. Have an amazing day

We got lucky, her first therapist suspected that she had BPD and referred us to a center that specializes in treating patients with BPD.
A source that might work for you if you're in the US is your county mental health department. When I was working with them to get my daughter's SED designation, they mentioned that while they had some therapists that worked with BPD patients, they mentioned that the center we were using was the "Gold Standard" in our area.
Point being, the county is not a for profit enterprise, so they will typically point you to good resources.
