My granddaughter was diagnosed with BPD last October after a year of depression and suicide attempts. She has been hospitalized 4 times and has been home from last stay for two weeks after trying to hit a pole with her car. Our family is so stressed and frightened. We have someone with her every day. She is good for a short while and just flips a switch and she shakes and cries hysterically, yelling at whoever is trying to help. Her twin sister is falling apart, her parents are angry all the time. I retired a year ago and now every day is full of fear and dread. I’m exhausted as are her parents. She is 19. It seems so hopeless.

Hello Rbecca
I am glad to meet you and sorry to hear about your granddaughter. I am sure you are all heartbroken. The good news is there is hope. You say she has been hospitalized before
Was it voluntary? Is she open to treatment? The reality is you can't change her but you can all change the way you communicate with her and that can help. We are all learning these skills together. First and foremost is always self care. What are you doing to take care of yourselves so you don't fall apart over this? Many of us, myself included, go to therapy. Is that an option for you and other family members? Stick around. We are here for you.

Hi - we are also in the same situation. For us, the best thing was reading the book, our daughter has bpd. It gave us insight as to what happened, and where to go from here. We were depressed, exhausted, ready to just give up. The book offered us advice and steps to take. Another great book is whole again.
Just realize you are not alone - as a parent, a grandparent, or one with bpd. Reach out anytime!

Hi there,

I'm sadden your family is going through this. I'm new here living with a partner with this disorder. I'm a medical researcher and I'm going to look at how this could/may occur in my partner. I'm interested in others too.

I have other suggestions but not sure if it's ok to go on.
