Run around at the shrink office

Behavioral Health is as careless as everything else. I got my DD19 to agree to see a shrink and of course she got the run around. She wanted to just leave but I drove so we stayed. I’m hoping she comes out of the therapy intake feeling better and cleared to see a shrink. Soon. She needs several meds.
Meanwhile, she suffers and causes suffering. She can’t make friends in school and is desperate and comes home a lot.
She loathes herself.
When I see women with young children I think “you are in for more pain than you realize.
Sorry for being so negative. I’m in the middle of a blowout.

Ugh. I hate blowouts too (unless we are talking about hair which we apparently aren't). I know what you mean about seeing women with young children. Who knows what they will face? Who knew what we would face? But here we are living and learning and loving as best we can. At least we have each other.

Lola,
I’m so happy that I was oblivious to the difficulties of raising teenagers and young adults. My 4 are all 2 years apart and I had about 13 years of smiles and lots of laughter. No one can take those memories away. Not even DD19, who is simply a shell of her former equestrian, gymnast, volunteer, violin player, dessert baker self.
I’m trying so hard to encourage her to commit to the comprehensive DBT therapy model right now after her latest crises, but she’s rejecting it as useless. I keep hoping that change is around the next corner. I hope your DD felt heard today and that she could align w/T and or P-Doc.
I just read a study about how important belief in the treatment is for the patient.
Sorry about the blowout
