Daughter with bpd

Hi,
My daughter had recently been diagnosed with BPD. We have been experiencing the problems associated with this condition for years and only now have a path to follow.

I have recently separated from her mother after 27 years of marriage. We talk now more than ever about her condition and how to deal with it. We are both committed.

It has been difficult to raise our child and we used multiple strategies as she was growing up. She is now 22 years old.

After reading the advice from this and multiple other websites it seems we may have made the situation worse by some of our strategies.

She is now attending DBT sessions once a week.

My wife and I separation has been difficult for her to come to grips with.

I suppose my question is, do people see real progress occur even if we use all methods available and follow strategies that I have read on this site and been advised to use by her therapists?

I am struggling to cope with this as she has moved in with me  and not able to stay at her mothers house due to our youngest daughter also living there.

I am struggling and need support myself.

Our objective is to better understand the struggles our child faces and to learn the skills to improve our relationship and provide a supportive environment and also improve on our own emotional responses, attitudes and effectiveness as a family leaders

Welcome to the parenting group. We are glad you are here. I am sorry for what you are going through with your daughter. It is not easy. It is good she has been diagnosed because, as you say, there is now a path to follow. The good news is she is going to DBT. Yes people often do see real progress. It takes time but it does happen.

How did it come about that she is living with you now? How do you feel about it?

Yes, I have Faul. Through resources and wonderful member support group here I worked it out, how to help me, my DD get to a better place. It takes patience, it's a slow and steady road.
