Adult Child Spinning Out of Control

Just coming out of a brief ‘honeymoon’ period after months of escalating depression, anger/rage, blaming, verbal abuse, threats of self-harm...then fracturing her hand punching a dresser because I didn’t buy something in the amazon cart...except she never acknowledges that’s what set her off...it’s always something I did or didn’t do, she twists my words and events so much I don’t even know the truth sometimes. I’m at a loss right now. She sees a DBT therapist weekly but barely participates and won’t do the group therapy part or worksheets. Thinks everyone is stupid and just in it for the money. Refuses to enter any intensive programs. I live in a state that gives me few resources for involuntary hospitalization except to go through the court or call the police for a max 48 hour evaluation. Except they won’t hold for personality disorders and I believe she’ll calm down enough to not appear to be an immediate threat. I feel like a hostage. She won’t work or go to school. The rages are escalating. I feel terrible for feeling so numb and disengaged. I just want her to be okay and live somewhere else. Any advice/hope?

Hello
Solomom
I am glad to meet you and sad for the circumstances. I can totally relate to what you are saying about wishing your daughter was OK and living somewhere else. That would be my wish for my son too. Is there hope? Yes. People do recover from this illness but it happens on their time not ours. It sounds like you have done all you can. My best advice would be to focus on you and your own self care.
