Hi everyone. My younger child - daughter age 11, took an overdose last week and we rushed her to hospital after she told us. Since the age of 9 she has been telling us she is a "waste of space" and is incredibly easily offended even by people who she knows love her, or by something as small as somebody saying they can't do what she wants immediately. Lots of physical pains, difficultly breathing when she feels panicky, unwilling to discuss what is going on until it becomes too HUGE to discuss. Anyway, we are just starting down the path of DBT and learning about BPD (don't care for the name at all) and it's kind of eye-opening to hear all the similarities! Thanks for listening.

Our objective is to better understand the struggles our child faces and to learn the skills to improve our relationship and provide a supportive environment and also improve on our own emotional responses, attitudes and effectiveness as a family leaders

Welcome Maritime,
I am incredibly grateful your daughter received help and is alive.  My son had suicidal ideation  at 11.5 years old  as well and  had to be  hospitalization .

It is also good that she is getting treatment now .   .  Don't forget to take care of yourself as well.  Don't get discouraged as this is a marathon , not a sprint. Write here to us any time. We are here for you
