My marriage is failing

My husband is like Dr Jekyll and mr Hyde. At times he can be warm and friendly. Other times he gets so upset over the smallest things. Then he starts yelling or sometimes throws things. Then I cry and the situation gets worse. I am often walking on egg shells when he is acting that way.  He can be a very loving person, but when he is his other self it is awful. I do not know what to do to help. No way will he do counseling. I am tempted to go as I need help.
