Welcome new member (click to insert in post) Mom with BPD is so difficult, sometimes I wish I lived in a different state or something. It's like talking to a brick wall or child, nothing goes through her ears except what she wants to hear, which is always distorted or assumed.

I'm exhausted, relieved, and sad right now.

Yes, there's an incredible mental and spiritual strain on loved ones of BPs - because unlike talking to an actual child or mentally handicapped person, you can't quite shake the feeling they SHOULD be able to understand better than they are. The honest truth is, I often find myself second-guessing whether she's done something maliciously or out of pure "childlike ignorance" we'll call it. One of the pwBPDs in my life had an affair on her husband because she had seen some movie (she explained it to us, I've forgotten) where it made the husband mad with jealous envy and so loved her even better and so she hoped that whlie he didn't really respect her personality disorder BEFORE the affair, that after the affair he would...or something. It's mindboggling to me, not entirely different in the level of coherence when they explain their thought processes to a schizophrenic explaining how his shoes can do music for a bird on three pennies. At some point you're just tempted to back away slowly...but when they're family, you can't get far :\
