BPD daughter too emotionally attached to girlfriend

Our 15yo BPD daughter has a serious girlfriend.  We are fine with her sexuality.  That really is not concerning to us.  What concerns us is her 100% need to be with her gf all the time.  The other day, she spent the afternoon with other friends and family (1st time in several months) and I thought she really had a "good day."  Was in a great mood, doing other activities, etc.  I went to check on her in her room and she was sitting on the floor cutting herself and bawling.  She needed her girlfriend.  It was the only thing to calm her down.  Of course, we caved, let the girlfriend come over (who we actually like) and her mood did a complete 180. 
Anyone else have this experience?  Any suggestions to wean?  We can't force a break-up but this is obviously not healthy.

Our objective is to better understand the struggles our child faces and to learn the skills to improve our relationship and provide a supportive environment and also improve on our own emotional responses, attitudes and effectiveness as a family leaders

What did the doctors say about her cutting?  Did she have to get stiches?

No stitches, superficial.  From what I've heard and read, most cutting does not require stitches.  Its a very unhealthy coping mechanism but not necessarily an attempt to do real harm.  Her psychiatrist and therapist believe she could really benefit from DBT therapy (which we are beginning).  Praying we some improvement over the next year.
