I’m so glad I found you! Our 24-year-old daughter was diagnosed with BPD several years ago, and it has been an up hill struggle. She has been hospitalized once and has willingly partipated in two residential programs, phps, DBT training, TMS, ketamine and iops. She is beginning to insist nothing works and is becoming very fragile…talks about not wanting to exist frequently but freaks out at the mention of hospitalization, screaming, “That only makes things worse!” So we are afraid to pull that trigger.
She has been in and out of several colleges and can’t land on a career path. She has difficulty maintaining friendships and feels isolated and alone. Any suggestions?
Thank you!

Our daughter did a service program abroad recently. It was not expensive at all and make no mistake, there were definitely a number of upset phone calls at 3 a.m. but overall it was a positive experience. There are a number of these kinds of programs that cater to different interests and budgets. I am happy to provide details about her program if you pm me.
Of course, eventually she had to come home and all her problems were waiting for her. And the same social problems she experiences here followed her there. But it provided a special kind of energy, a "look what you can do" energy, and a glimpse at other ways of life and an appreciation of how hard it is for many people just to get through each day.
