It sounds difficult to go through that. Hopefully some time off will help out. Eggshells is a good book. I also recommend Stop Caretaking the Borderline or Narcissist to help with your own self. It helped me from "caretaking" my uBPD wife's emotions and instead being there to support her at a healthy level while also caring for my own emotions, health, etc.
About contact with them, maybe just let them know that you're open to talking and give them time to think it over. Good luck and take care.
