My daughter is 27 and was recently diagnosed after a suicide attempt. She is a drug addict, who had it under control for years, but had a lapse while in an abusive relationship.  She is in a private rehab and doing well. She has left the community where she was brought up, is attending rehab and will start a new life I hope once she is released.

From the time she turned 15 life was hell with her - I’m hoping that now that there has been a diagnosis that education of the disorder and learning communication and coping skills will help. Trust needs to be rebuilt

I’m just now reading my first book and learning more. Thank you

Hi Photomum

Welcome to the bpdfamily.  I'm sorry for what you are going through but you have come to the right place to share your journey, learn from others and the wealth of information to the right. Bullet: important point (click to insert in post) Hopefully a change in her setting may set her on a better path. Doing the right thing (click to insert in post)

It can be as challenging having a diagnosis as it is a relief and it's great that you have started reading.  I recently read "Loving Someone with Borderline Personality Disorder" by Shari Manning.  I found it very helpful and there is specific information in there targeted to your circumstances.

My daughter is also 27 with a diagnosis from about three years ago and I can relate to feeling like there have been some hellish years as my daughter also became very problematic at around 14/15.  It is no doubt a long journey.

Do you have support for you as it is very important to look after yourself as BPD is, as you know, very exhausting.

Hopefully you can share more about your daughter's recovery as there will be many parents here eager to learn from your experience and share theirs.

Take care
Merlot

Hello Photomom,

I would like to join Merlot in welcoming you here.

You sound very positive, and I am so pleased for you that you wisely recognise the need to learn as much as you can about BPD and also communication and coping skills, you can find so much information here along with help and support. Read others posts and learn from other parents too.

You recognise that trust needs to be rebuilt, that alone can be a very slow process but we will be here with you every step of the way. Keep posting, it helps to share
