Hello,

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this or similar before. Or does anyone know if this pertains to BPD behavior?

An example would be: you mention that sometimes the way your partner speaks to you makes you feel belittled, and maybe days or weeks later they claim the exact same thing. Or...passing your ideas off as their own, something of this nature.

leftbrained,

I have experienced the same thing over and over again with my pwBPD.  I have a few acquaintances experienced similar episodes with their respective spouses with combat PTSD and schizophrenia.  It is a hallmark of mental illness, not specific to BPD but is inclusive, but it spans most of the spectrum of disorders.

Look up the terms 'projection' and 'transference' as that is what you have described.

   Take care with self-care.

I'm familiar with both of those terms, but what I'm talking about feels a little different. Transference might apply here, but perhaps mirroring is more appropriate.

It felt pretty odd at the time. It's strangely refreshing to hear someone else has experienced this.

Mirroring is also an appropriate term.  All of these things together = crazy making.

I am trying to address this very topic with our couple's T, and I have almost no progress, but I did manage to plant a few emotional seeds on the topic and hope to expand next week.

Take care with self-care.
