My son has just told me he has BPD.  He will not discuss it with me.  I am researching it and my heart is broken.  I don't know what to do.

Hi cindyomom,

I'm glad that you found us!

I'm sorry to learn that your son has BPD.  My daughter was diagnosed with emerging BPD at age 12... .I thought "OK, now I know what we are dealing with I can start learning and turn this around".  When I began to research about the disorder I too was devastated and then began to become confused because I didn't understand how my child could have this disorder.  She was never abused, abandoned, neglected or been through trauma.

Do you feel that way too?

Cindyomom

May I ask the age of your son? What of the BPD patterns have you experienced with him? There are some really good resources under "Foundation Reading" on the right sidebar -- books, articles and videos. They are not as discouraging as some of the other internet search results, especially those based on out-dated ideas, strategies, research.

Getting to know other parents here with sons, they often have a different appearance of BPD than some of us with daughters. I hope they will be around to greet you soon. Please let us know what questions you are struggling with the most. We care -- we can listen.
