Is Obsession part of BPD?

I know that must seem like an odd question but my UDD (26) is so set on this one guy that if he doesn't text, she goes into a deep depression.  To be clear, they are not a couple. She ignores important things in her life because she "just can't" if he hasn't texted her.  They are a 'friends with benefits' type of thing but he' regularly texts so if he misses, she is certain he's going to call off what they have which, imho, is probably far more fleeting to him than her.

I don't know how to help her through this and like so many have said, discussions in this state just cause a split. 

Is this normal by BPD standards?

Our objective is to better understand the struggles our child faces and to learn the skills to improve our relationship and provide a supportive environment and also improve on our own emotional responses, attitudes and effectiveness as a family leaders

I don't know if it is but my daughter is like that. It can be debilitating for her and se can neglect the people she is with. It's real to them but frustrating.

How do you help when they are in a spiral about the situations with that person?

We have tried speaking with her about self-esteem, the social norms of when to text but it is like this new friendship relationship in her mind is more important. Thinking of you. This is such a big one for us. We got her a lockbox for her phone on Anazon that will prevent you from using her phone but as we are in different cities it is really on her to manage.
