Need help with a family member who has BPD, it's like being on a roller coaster

Hi I'm nitty I'm new to this. My adult daughter has BPD and for me the parent it's like being on a roller coaster! My granddaughter has suggested this! I have no one to talk to about this and just need some help from people who understand

Our objective is to better understand the struggles our child faces and to learn the skills to improve our relationship and provide a supportive environment and also improve on our own emotional responses, attitudes and effectiveness as a family leaders

I'm glad you've joined us for support, we all know in one way or another that roller coaster feeling you describe.

Can you share a little with us so we can help support you, what behaviours are you dealing with your daughter? How is your grand daughter coping?

Along with Wendydarling, I also welcome you here.  It's very daunting when our roller coaster ride suddenly has a name - BPD.  Your granddaughter obviously cares and worries about you and I'm glad you are open to finding out more.  Not all people want to know.  I don't think that my DD27's paternal grandmother would be open to hearing about BPD; the mental illness that my youngest daughter, my mother and I think runs strong in the paternal line, they have always swept everything under the carpet.

There is a multitude of information on the board that can get you started.  I know for me, I felt such a sense of relief when I could locate my daughter's behaviours in much of what I was reading.  The validation was so important for me and as I slowly moved forward, I have learnt so much from other parents, from reading and learning.
