Need Help With 18yo Granddaughter

Our granddaughter lives with us. She just turned 18 and has been in and out of hospitals for 5 yrs. They have given her all their best guesses on diagnosis and drugs, which have followed her but never treated her or helped us. BPD is looking like it fits. We are looking for help to know how to communicate and live with her.

Hello and welcome to the group — we’re glad you joined to get some support.
Teens are challenging anyway, so coping with BPD traits and behaviors on top of that is just so much. You mention that GD18 has been in and out of hospitals for 5 years — has she lived with you that whole time?
Also, has she been compliant with any treatment, or does it seem like she “goes through the motions”?
And are you able to make legal decisions for her?
There have definitely been other grandparents here and other parents raising teens with BPD characteristics. Please do feel free to look at old threads — you are very not alone among other members here.
We look forward to hearing back from you;
