Hi, all... .
I'm in the LA area - and am looking for a Parenting Coach to help me provide my son with the most support I can give him in dealing with his BPD father.
Also, I am considering looking for a new Attorney - someone who is practiced in dealing with mental illness / BPD.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much.
I'm not sure about parenting coach -- do you mean someone different than a therapist or counselor?
For attorneys, you might try Googling "high conflict divorce" in your area, or "parental alienation attorney." The firms that deal specifically with those issues will know about BPD. Have you also read Splitting: Divorcing a NPD/BPD Spouse by Bill Eddy? Highly, highly recommended. Eddy is located in San Diego, but maybe his organization (High Conflict Institute
www.billeddy.com/about.htm) can direct you toward someone who specializes in HC divorces.
Or, if you can't find anyone, start a thread here asking people what kinds of questions you should ask any attorneys you consult with. Having a good L is really important, as I'm sure you know, so you might want to interview 2 or 3. Take a list of questions with you to each one -- you'll get valuable advice, even if you don't end of retaining them.
Good luck
