So my ex had asked for a continuance, I objected, and woohoo, got in the mail today the judge denied him, so final hearing in 19 days!

Around here it's been commented that the first few times a continuance is requested, judges often grant them but after a while the judges can get peeved about the repeated delays and are more willing to deny them. Also, there are only so many lawyers in an area and they have a bit of camaraderie even if they are on opposite sides in court. So they often don't oppose the other lawyers seeking continuances thinking they may want continuances themselves at other times.
For example, twice I had cases against my ex that ended up being 15-18 months long. And delays due to continuances were to my ex's benefit since virtually every case resulted in my ex losing credibility, parenting time or authority. One time her lawyer filed for a continuance stating my ex was under a doctor's care for pain. However it was a pre-trial where only the lawyers needed to appear, whether or not a client felt ill. Before my frustrated lawyer could object, the magistrate denied it.

Actually it was the first continuance asked for and I don't have a lawyer, I just stayed calm and objected by arguing how it wasn't in the child's best interest to delay this.
