My son is 26 years old and, according to him, the world is out to get him.  He has been trying to complete college on and off since he graduated HS.  He left this past year to complete school-first semester was good-the second a disaster.  He makes poor decisions and then they become expensive mistakes.  His latest, just today, is that U haul was trying to rip him off by off charging him.  He made a scene and the employee threatened to have him arrested.  Then while he was moving he left an item by the door for a minute-it was stolen.  He tried to cancel his cable and Verizon told him he had a two year contract and there would be a termination fee.  He has no job and I'm sure he has debt.  Everyday there is another problem.  My stomach is in knots.  He doesn't recognize it might be him and, for sure, he won't go for counseling.

Hi librarymama,

Welcome to the Parents Board, I'm glad you found us and sorry to hear that your son is struggling so much.  Having victim mentality is not BPD specific though it is a common feature.

What behaviors of your son cause you to believe he has BPD specifically?  Which ones are the most difficult for you to deal with?

Watching our adult kids make mistake after mistake and not seem to learn from them is hard on us moms.  How do you usually handle it when he comes to you wanting help?
