My 22 year old daughter has BPD

She's a beautiful, smart and talented young woman who lives with my husband and I.  Since she moved back in 2.5 years ago she had slowly become worse and worse.  She doesn't work or go to school and has very few friends.

She was diagnosed in mid-July but she does not accept her diagnosis.  She has created such a chaotic atmosphere in the house and I never know from minute to minute what her moods will be like.  She convinces herself that she is sick and insists in going to the ER.  She's been there 3 times this summer and they find nothing.

What can I do for her?  She refuses treatment or stops going.  I don't know how much more stress I can take; I'm disabled from a car accident and have terrible pain but I always try to help her.  Nothing is helping and she's getting so bad.

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm glad you are here looking for help though sorry for what brings you here.  I have a daughter, 19 next month, that was diagnosed with emerging BPD when she was 12 years old so I understand your struggles.

We have many tools, skills, and Lessons in the side bar that can help you learn to better understand what your daughter struggles with, ways to communicate with her and skills that will help you cope with all of this. 

When your daughter has participated in therapy did it seem to help at all?  What kind of therapy was it and how long did she attend?

Having long term health concerns of your own while dealing with the tumultuous relationship with your daughter must be so very overwhelming at times.     Do you have a therapist that can help you?  Many of us parents have our own therapists to help us cope, it really does help.
