I have been receiving a fair amount of negative texts this past several days culminating in a break up. My gf sent me a text yesterday saying I was deceptive, manipulative and selfish, among other things. A projection I believe with how she is feeling about herself.

This morning I sent her a text telling her that I just wanted her to know that she has been very sweet to me and I appreciate everything she's done. (Referring to our relationship as a whole)

She replied with " I agree, you have been a lucky guy"

What I said to her was a little bit validation and little bit projection on my part. But it seems to have stemmed the flow for the moment.

Without out and out lying, but maybe just bending the truth slightly, can we project our good feelings/qualities onto them with any success just as they do with their bad feelings/qualities onto us? Or is this just a thimbleful of water on a house fire?
