Hi
since returning home 8 weeks ago I've been seeing my BPDs 25 problems with a new light. He lived away and was diagnosed in sept 15.
He has limited functioning in that he can't plan or work towards a goal. He's forgetful also but wouldn't be able to use a reminder system like a diary. I've always known this but thought this was due to daily weed use which lowers dopamine levels and thus motivation. He does still smoke but it's been occasional use since his return.
He has had one 8 day black mood period over xmas. The only other day where I could say for definite that he was low was the day of his only interview for a part-time job (which he didn't get - he didn't want it - he was scared). I know he feels his situation is hopeless, he appears to accept this, his mood is even and I believe this primarily down to a calm environment in the house (lower anxiety level) and unrisky leisure with a few friends. I've read that serotonin and norapinephrine levels are lower in BPD trait sufferers.
I'm wondering if anybody out there has tried natural remedies like St Johns Wort or ginkgo and fish oil? All are know to help brain function.
I know this may be considered by some as "fixer mode". I completely realise this approach doesn't replace therapy but perhaps could help?
Any experiences?

Hi LOLLYPOP
I wanted to respond as someone who has a BPD adult child that has tried the natural remedies.
MY BPDD32 tried ST.Johns Wort for a period of time, it was not a good experience for her, it escalated the depression. I am not sure why, but it did. I would say you should get several opinions before trying any or all of the natural remedies. everybody has different experiences, and everybody's situation is unique to them. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I had severe anxiety and lost my last job due to its painful effects. It was devastating as it was the best paying job I have ever had in my life.
I was at the point of giving up due to my battles with anxiety until recently I discovered Magnesium and the role it plays to help people calm down.
Here is the tread with details

Thank you both for your thoughts and advice.
I have taken st Johns wort myself occasionally over the years and I can't recommend it enough for low mood. I've no experience for something like BPD and that's why I asked.
Very interesting thread about magnesium. Bpds is very interested in trying it for a period. I'll let you know how he gets on.
Thanks for now
