I'm so grateful to have found this site.  My teenage daughter has recently been diagnosed with BPD.  She has struggled with anxiety since she was a little girl and depression for the past 5 years or so.  She's been hospitalized twice for depression, and recently made a suicide attempt.  She is beautiful and brilliant and SO much fun. She is also selfish and mean and manipulative.  I hate it.  I hate that she has to deal with a constant feeling of lonliness, emptiness and sadness.  I hate that she's irrational and illogical.  I LOVE her with everything in me.  I desperately want to find the right treatment for her.  I have faith in her new psychiatrist, who working hard to find the correct medicine for her, and he was the one who gave the correct diagnosis.  I am looking for the right kind of therapy.  Any suggestions for that are greatly appreciated.  Most of all, I'm looking for support.  Everyone in my daughter's life just thinks she a selfish spoiled brat.  I see her as someone who is suffering, (though sometimes I want to smack her in the face.) and needs the correct treatment.

Hi sushilover

Welcome and so glad you found us too, though sorry for what brings you here.   You've come to the right place, there are great resources for parents including the tools and lessons to the right of the page and everyone is super helpful, supportive and caring. You are not alone.

My daughter (27) is about to start DBT treatment, that is what was recommended for her. As your daughter has been recently diagnosed are you expecting the mental health team to recommend treatment options or the psychiatrist? Hopefully the psychiatrist will recommend suitable meds soon.  How old is your daughter?

As you say it's very hard to see our kids who we love dearly suffering and be misunderstood. Like others I'm immensely grateful for what I am learning here, it's helping me and my daughter take positive steps forward and gives me hope and confidence.

Welcome.  My heart goes out to you and your family but especially to your daughter.  My 16 year old daughter is diagnosed with BPD traits.  My daughter started DBT therapy in October 2016.  We are awaiting the group training but her therapist has introduced "radical acceptance", "self soothing" and "wisemind" concepts.  Some training materials.  These have been helpful after a medication change.  There is great hope and success for managing BPD.  The extensive tools on this site are wonderful for parents learning to support without making matters worse.  The workshops and lessons have been a Godsend for me.  You are your daughters biggest supporter and no one can know her potential like you.  We knew them before the full emergencee of their traits combined with adolescents.  This site will help you. It has helped me and my daughter is learning and has acheived more stability.  We are hear to support you.

sushilover and welcome to BPD family, I'm glad you find us. It sounds like your daughter is well on her way to getting the help she needs, that is good news! I hope things continue in that direction.

Hi Sushilover,

Welcome and thank you for sharing some of your story.  I'm pretty new to this board, too and also have a teenage daughter who is brilliant, deeply loved and utterly bewildering/maddening by turns.  I have shared all the  feelings you expressed so well.  I have already found this to be a really safe and supportive place and hope it will be the same for you!
