I keep getting calls from debt collectors that are after my STBX. I am not responsible according to our agreement and my understanding is that they can only go after him anyway since the cards were in his name only.  I have answered a few calls and gave them his updated info and asked them to take my number off the account. I even told them he is my "ex" husband. Which will be soon enough. I sometimes wonder how they are calling me, unless he gave them my info when he signed up. How do I get them off my back? I bet he told his next ex wife that I am the one who charged up all the debt and left it for him to pay- I really do. Allot of this was his expensive hotel rooms he would stay in with other women... .just awful! Now I have more  reminders of him!  To think I helped pay off his debt over and over and over! His Dad too. Talk about enabling! He is better off with bad credit and full credit cards so he can't spend money he doesn't have... .The last call made it sound so legal, like they were sending out a certified letter! How far can credit card companies go to collect? Does any one know or have dealt with this?

I would run this one by an attorney.

Collection companies are so unbelievably aggressive and relentless and ruthless. They will pursue and harass even if what they do runs ever so slightly afoul of what is considered legal.

It might be a good idea to consult with an attorney to be double and triple sure of what is or is not legal. That might involve talking to more than a family law attorney, at least asking them for a referral.

You have no obligations toward those companies as long as they were his accounts, not joint, and court didn't assign them to you.  Not even to tell them how to find him.  Dave Ramsey, a radio talk show host who sometimes comments on those companies, would put them on a level just above whale poo, I borrowed from an animated fish movie.
