Step down and transition living help needed

Hello and I am new to this group as a mom with a child diagnosed with BPD. It is nice to have this family forum to share with and get help with as it is painful to watch my child suffer so.

Story being, she has been at a clinic in Texas in a program for young adults as she is 18, and was diagnosed there with BPD.

A couple of problems are it is time for discharge, and time to transition to a step down program.

Well I have to say, most of our accounts, credit cards and loans have either depleted or racked up at this clinic alone and yet she still does not know how to apply the coping skills. I am unsure as to the amount of DBT that was learned but they said it all flows together in the therapies (?).

At this time, she is still struggling but time to move on.

Questions I have are... .

Does anyone have a great experience with a step down for their child or recommendation for them to succeed at it?

Also, if she is not ready for it what is the next step?

I truly do not want her to come home and relapse and then something worse happen. We are trying to prevent that. By home, we are in Upstate New York and there is NOTHING here, it takes months to get into a psychiatrist. So we are looking on the east coast.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Under crunch time as discharge is next week

Our objective is to better understand the struggles our child faces and to learn the skills to improve our relationship and provide a supportive environment and also improve on our own emotional responses, attitudes and effectiveness as a family leaders

If your daughter is not ready, why discharge?  Can't you meet with social worker facility, explain your concerns, along with your financial situation and see if they will allow her to stay?  I think they would more than likely be able to write it off as an operating loss if you are no longer able to afford and for them to show good faith since you've paid up until now.

The facility should also be able to guide you into the next step.  Do you have  a Care Manager on the East Coast? If so, contact them if not look into getting one. I live on the East Coast and our d is in a RTC which is covered by our state. I'm not sure if NY has similar and if it matter because your d is 18.

DBT is very effective for BPD however it takes lots of time and practice. Often times more than a year.  Educate yourself as much as you can there are lots of lessons on this site and good advice from parents who can relate.
