Common for BPD mothers to abandon their children?

Just wondering if the statistics point to a higher percentage of mothers with BPD abandoning or leaving their children for extended periods?
Why would they suddenly give up?
My son's mother is going on week 4 with only a few days contact. Still no phone so she can call day care or anyone else. I haven't received email either.
Just wondering what to prepare for in the future.
Evidently her bf isn't the Christian man he pretends to be if he's not encouraging her to do what's right for our son.
Her loss, she's handing our son to me without a fight. Best thing for my son and myself.

What's the legal status regarding your custody? At can certainly support you regarding helping you and your son deal with abandonment, yet the legal issues are the first step in gaining stability, a baseline.

I'd go along with you Jerry, my stbxw doesnt 'get' kids.
I've done 2 away trips (1 week) with D7 since the summer - mum doesn't care or participate.
M's organized a nice christmas get away with D19, but excluding D7.
I'll be off with D7 again. Cool.
There's no abandonment as such, but M's time with D7 is by choice strictly minimal.

I would say , yes. this is common. BPD/NPD have no attachment to anything. Exwife left her son from first marriage, when he was 6 y.o. Moved the USA where she met me. We have daughter of 10 y.o. Here she also left me after 10 years of marriage and found another guy in a month. She started taking our daughter to his house in a month! Can you image what was a shock for a girl! Very soon she lost part of her interest in our daughter and stated focusing on her boyfriend (love bombing). It is good that I brought my daughter to the therapist. After , my daughter could say court evaluater that Mom doesn't pay attention to her, yelled and scream on her.
