I am a single mother who is desperate to know that this will get better.  My daughter is a beautiful person but this condition is breaking me.  I'm not good with words but I feel so all alone.  I just need someone to talk to that will understand what I am going through.  I have no one to talk to.  This condition has pushed everyone in my life away.  I do not know how to help my daughter.  The mental health community is so hard to navigate and find the right person/medication.  My daughter has been diagnosed with so many different things and given so much  medication but nothing helps.  How do I help her?  How do I get through this?  How do I keep my sanity and handle the situation correctly?  I fear that I am only hurting my daughter but lack of sleep (she keeps us up all night), no one that understands is very hard.  This is such an isolating condition.  I just need someone that knows and understands what I am going through.

Our objective is to better understand the struggles our child faces and to learn the skills to improve our relationship and provide a supportive environment and also improve on our own emotional responses, attitudes and effectiveness as a family leaders

Hi,
Please know that you are not alone.  It is hard when the people in your life do not understand what you are going through.  To outsiders it may seem like we are not parenting properly, that we need to be more firm, not "allow" this behaviour etc.  They do not understand this illness.  Who are we kidding? WE don't understand it either!  All we can do is continue to learn about it, and practise the skills we learn here.

It's important to remember that we need to take care of ourselves too.  This is hard when we are always taking care of our BPD child, or are waiting for the next crisis!  We must be at our best to be able to cope with everything.

I too, have felt completely exhausted after staying up, trying to "talk down" my BPD daughter during a crisis.  I'm starting to think that I am only becoming a crutch to her though.  She needs to use the strategies she's learning in therapy to self soothe.

Is your child in therapy?
What can you do for yourself this week? (Read a book, take a walk, go for a drive, listen to music?)
Remember that we are all here for you.  YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

Wishing you a better day tomorrow!
