I have made several very disheartened posts about my 27 year old BPD daughter who just had a baby. She has been in therapy for a while and we have been in family therapy. She has been doing DBT and there have been significant positive changes. Her mood is mellower. She is less edgy, less full of anger, and is easier to get along with. All her BPD tendencies did not disappear and I think they will be something she will struggle with all of her life. She will have good and bad days, weeks, months; but all in all I am very impressed by the progress she has made and we have made as a family. I have at times felt there was no hope for her and I was overwhelmingly worried about the prospect of her raising a child, but now I see that positive change is possible and I cannot tell you what a relief that is. She is - much to my surprise - an attentive and patient mother. I think we lucked out and finally found a really good therapist. Throughout her life my daughter was dragged from doctor to doctor and was given one misdiagnosis after another. She was put on medication and that did little to help. But it seems she has finally found the right care and I feel so lucky and thankful for that. All I want in this world if for my daughter and granddaughter to be healthy and happy human beings and this now seems possible.

Hi there AMWET

I'm so touched to hear your news, the relief you feel after all this time and your hope   You've been there for her, always, I'm sure she knows that.  Like you I have learnt things do, can change, there is hope. What helped me is to understand my DD's disorder through my learning here, understanding her limitations, her goals and what changes I can make personally for me, to enjoy a brighter life together, we are.

Here's to getting unstuck AMWET  Doing the right thing (click to insert in post)

Great to hear your DD has a solid therapist she can work with!  My 29DD is on twitter BPD communities reaching out and supporting each other, just like us, they are not alone and nor are we  Smiling (click to insert in post)  Doing the right thing (click to insert in post)
