Our daughter is 19. She is in so much pain and spews that pain back on us. For hours. What horrible Parents we are, how we made her like this, how Home is not a safe space, how we don’t care. She responds to defense with rage, but even when we listen she goes on and on. She is dismissive of therapy and resists being upfront with doctors. She goes back to school today after Thanksgiving Break today. I feel as if we have been trying to help her for years, but she is only experiencing more rage and sadness. If this were a physical ailment there would be a clear path of treatment and support from medical community. We are alone and feel completely helpless. Thank you for listening.

Hello Loanmane and welcome.

Let me first of all tell you that you are not alone, there are lots of parents on here in all different situations but bound together by the fact that they have offspring with BPD or traits of BPD. We can all offer each other support.

There are lots of things to learn here to help us to communicate better with our BPD offspring, look to the right, there are tools there, and by reading posts you will gain insight into how others cope.

The overriding thing that most will tell you here, is to take care of yourself, you matter. This is something that we as parents often forget, we are too busy pouring all our energy into caring for our children trying to do what’s best for them and neglecting ourselves in the process.
