Hi, my daughter got caught drinking at a liquor store yesterday and ran away.  When I found her she tried choking me.  She hates me and is resistant to everything I do, we are slipping backwards.
I've known she has BPD for a long time.  But at 18, she is out of control, drinking and violent and not finishing school.  Noone thinks we have a problem.  I do.  I need a support group, intervention or something.  Please,, help.

Hi scaredandalone,

Welcome

I am sorry such a tough crisis brought you here! Many of came here while in crisis.

She is 18, does she live with you? Do you have any idea where she could be staying? Have you contacted the authorities in your local area for assistance with locating her? Or is it considered too soon?

When you say she was caught drinking... .who caught her?

We are a support group and are here to talk, sometimes we can also recommend local resources. Have you looked into Al-Anon groups in your area perhaps? Is there a local teen crisis line? Is she in school or no? If so, are there resources via her school?

Again, sorry, I know you must be feeling so worried about your daughter.

sincerely, pearl.

Welcome Scaredandalone,

How upset you must be! It's awful when we get slammed by our children's behaviors. It's very common for BPD's to self medicate. Just because we know that doesn't make it any easier  . I'm concerned for you as you said she tried to choke you, can you be safe around her? What kind of support system do you have?
Here in this place, we are here for you. You came to the right place for support. You said you have known her diagnosis for a while, does that mean there was therapy? How did she get diagnosed? I hope you will be up to posting again, it would be real nice to know a little more.

Hi Scaredandalone

That's a tough situation,  I'm so sorry and wonder how you are and if you've been able to locate your daughter?

We are here to support you and we are listening
