Can't stop crying

I found out this year that my adult daughter has been struggling with BPD. I had done some research on this illness, but had no idea how debilitating it really was untill yesterday when she told me she was going into a womans parcial program for intense therapy.I am devastated over the info I have read about this serious illness! Is there any hope for normal life? I read that up to 70% of all patience with this mental disease will attempt suicide! I myself have PTSD due to an Ex committing suicide in front of me 10 years ago, and I feel that all the emotional turmoil coming back! Can my daughter ever have a normal life?

Yes, Robin there IS hope, lots of hope! BPD is a devastating disease but it is much more treatable than once was thought. While there is an increased chance of suicide it is 8-10% not 70%. Your daughter has two important things going for her. She is willing to go to therapy and she has your support. I know this is all overwhelming to you right now. I felt overwhelmed when I first learned of my son's diagnosis. But you definitely are doing the right thing by coming here. This is a great group. You will learn a lot of things that will help you and your daughter and you will get tons of non-judgmental support. As you settle in please share more, whatever you are comfortable with.

Sending you a hug. Right now. Be strong! Your daughter has taken the decision to seek help - that's half the battle done right there. Support her and love her. And keep writing on this board to all these wonderful people listening to each other and helping.

Sending hugs from Canada. I can't imagine the range of emotions you have and will experience. It is good that you are here.
You can share openly and be assured that you will be heard, validated and supported.
THIS is all about and for YOU! Let us walk alongside you during your journey. There are many members with brutal experiences, but still have hope. Allow yourself to learn from them ... .if only to gain hope again ... .FOR YOU.
Sending you moments of peace.
