Don't know if this has been addressed somewhere on this board.

Are there local support groups for SO or family members with BPD?  Is there one in the Chicago area?

I know that with COVID everything is online, but I'd still like to find a local group. If there isn't one, I'd like to start one.

I'm not sure what's available in Chicago ... there is NEA-BPD's Family Connections, which has online programs (maybe you are familiar with it already?). I attended one of their workshops in person, which was led by a peer facilitator. If you express interest in being a peer facilitator and want to run support groups in your community, there is (at least was, pre-covid) a 2-day leadership retreat you could attend.

BPDFamily's parenting board bases its material on the Family Connections work, and the FC group I attended drew a lot of their material from Shari Manning's Loving Someone with BPD, as well as dialectical behavior therapy skills.
