My daughter has been diagnosed with  BPD. Her husband has many characteristics of NPD and some BPD as well. They have a 5 year old who I am very worried about. They limit my contact with him although the 5 year old and I are very close. Looking forward to talking with others in similar situations.

Our objective is to better understand the struggles our child faces and to learn the skills to improve our relationship and provide a supportive environment and also improve on our own emotional responses, attitudes and effectiveness as a family leaders

You'll see other grandparents posting, in similar situations, where contact is controlled/limited/refused. Is this a recent change, or has it been happening for sometime?

Wonder how your daughter received the recent diagnosis?

I can’t tell you how many of us there are but I have discovered a lot just through this forum.  I’m one of them.  Our BPD daughter is married to an NPB.  Terrible situation for our poor 4yo granddaughter and a grandson who turned one this month    We were only allowed to see him once for 5 minutes.  We were very involved in our granddaughters life until she was about 2 1/2.  Then I believe our daughter “split.”   We haven’t even seen our granddaughter since last April.  We live 6 minutes away.  They’ve blocked us and most of my family by phone and social media.  We’ve had to drop gifts for the kids on their porch, never even knowing if they got to keep them.  It’s been 3 years now.  Tragic and heartbreaking.  In our state grandparents don’t have rights
to see their grandchildren.  We’ve given up hope.  I wish I could be giving you a positive message but I believe it is common practice for these disorders to weaponize their own children.  Painful to watch.  Good luck.
