Hi. I am a fourteen year old girl with a sixteen year old sister diagnosed with BPD.

Ever since I was small, I felt that my sister was different. I didn't get along with her at all. At times, she was kind and other times, she would hurt me. She could be overly affectionate or overly aggressive. When she was diagnosed when I was twelve, I began to understand why she was like that.

I see a psychologist every week but she isn't any help even though she has had a sister like mine growing up. My sister has many friends and honestly, she's drop dead gorgeous. She's never had any problem when it comes to being social.

I am very nervous and often have anxiety attacks.

We are basically polar opposites.

My sister has a terrible relationship with my mother. She's always insulting her, it's horrible.

My sister is suicidal. She's been to the hospital three times after trying to kill herself.

My sister is an addict and a regular smoker. She says that without drugs, she would kill herself and that drugs are the only thing keeping her sane.

She drives me crazy. She acts all nice to me and then breaks my trust. My friends seem to love her and even if I try to explain that I want to stay away, they don't understand. None of them do. I just don't know what to do anymore.

Could anyone give me some advice on how to cope with it all?

Hi BPDsibling34

Dealing with a BPD sister can be very though indeed. I have an older BPD sister too and know how challenging and frustrating this can be. I am very sorry that you are having these struggles and are finding it so hard dealing with your sister. It isn't easy at all dealing with a disordered family-member who's also suicidal.

You are seeing a psychologist every week but unfortunately don't find her much help at all. If your school has a school counselor or school social worker, perhaps you could also talk to that person about what you are dealing with.

Having a support network as you go through all of this can be very helpful. It is great to see you reaching out for support and advice here.

You are 14 years old. Unfortunately, our site requires the members to be at least 18 years old. There are other sites specifically for teens that can help you. I encourage you to check out www.teenhelp.org, a website dedicated to helping teens who find themselves struggling. I've also selected this other resource that could be helpful for you:

Your Life Your Voice

www.yourlifeyourvoice.org/AskIt/Pages/default.aspx

Please know we will be here for you when you are 18 and look forward to hearing from you then.

Take care
