Last weekend I attended a 3-day workshop for families of someone with BPD in San Diego, CA, hosted by BPD Global.  I really believe it has saved my sanity, and possibly my husband's life from suicide.  I have read a ton of books already, but learned about the biology and science behind the disorder, what it is like inside their head and how they view the world and themselves, and how to communicate with them.  bottomline is:  they didnt ask for BPD.  they are not trying to manipulate you but just are desperately trying to meet their needs.  they are in agonizing emotional pain all the time.  They operate from an emotional brain only and cannot apply logic and reason to an emotional problem.  validating their emotion is imperative(not agreeing with it, just validating how they feel).  having clear boundaries and personal limits for yourself that have been communicated to them, and then radical acceptance.  you cannot be angry at them any more than you can be angry at your loved one for having cancer.  I feel so much less angry and resentful and bitter.  and I feel more grounded and have a plan and direction.  I would highly recommend the class if you can get to San Diego.  they have one every 3 months.
