Good morning to my BPD community!    I'm really looking forward to having some comrades in arms.  I strongly believe my husband has been suffering from BPD and depression since October 2012 when he woke up one morning suffering from Bell's Palsy.  I feel like we have been living in the twilight zone for the past 4-5 years, and I am just now putting all the pieces together that seem to form a picture of BPD.  I am currently searching for therapists/psychologists in the Atlanta area if anyone has any suggestions.  Unfortunately, my spouse's condition has wreaked havoc on our children, 15 and 17, put most particularly my son, who has suffered from two different episodes of anxiety/depression (once in 7th grade and now again in 9th grade).  I am hopeful that we can start to get some answers and start the healing process so that our family can once again be happy and healthy.

If you are willing to drive a little there is a wonderful BPD/ DBT programm at the Augusta University and there is also a really strong support group.

Hi infinite hope and welcome to bpdfamily.

You may consider contacting your closest NAMI office for local resources. They also offer classes and support groups for families. Is your husband trying to understand/work through his issues? What sort of behaviors is he exhibiting?

BPD is very hard on those suffering from it but especially so on families and children. Is your youngest getting any support or therapy?

There is a lot of good information and support on this site. You are definitely not alone. It is really good that you are looking for support and understanding now. Please let us know how we can help.

In Atlanta, I would start with the clinical psychology programs at Emory and Georgia State, and perhaps call Medical College of Georgia in Augusta for referrals.

The referrals are good.

Regarding your kids,  we have members here who can help support you support them,  as well as a lot of material (to the right,  and at the top of the board). How,  specifically,  are you struggling with your son?

Hi infinitehope,

My son (uBPD/narcissistic father) also suffered from adolescent anxiety/depression. Middle school was extremely tough for him, and the transition to high school was, too.

It is heart breaking to see your child stumble and have such a hard time managing. I am guessing he has a therapist? Even with a therapist, I found I had to change the way I parent. Validation, one of the skills that is recommended for BPD partners is also essential for parenting kids, I have found. Are you familiar with validation?

Glad you found the site. It helps to have others walk with you on this path. Smiling (click to insert in post)
