BPD attack on Xmas

My sister had a BPD episode towards me on Xmas in front of the entire extended family. I must have triggered something as she became upset from an alleged judgemental glance from me. When I tried to deny her rapidly surmounting allegations, she proceeded to verbally attack me by yelling at me for being nasty, critical, mean, etc. I then told her that she needed therapy as she seems to have BPD. I was rather calm throughout our exchanges. She became furious, cursing me, playing victim, following me around the house as she screamed and cried. Her words were extremely illogical almost as if she were talking to herself. The holidays may be difficult for her as she’s the only sibling without a significant other or children. And a week prior to this, we were becoming closer, meeting for dinner although the majority of the time she was talking her difficulties with friends, coworkers, bosses which is often the case. She never seems very interested in my life though. Often after some bonding over dinner, the next time we meet she is cold and distant. I also feel that she is trying to make my other sisters side with her through manipulation. I am hurt and would love to cut her out of my life but I’ve decided to be civil but with very strong boundaries. I need to protect myself and luckily my nuclear family is drama free. But her unexpected rage startled me and I can’t seem to get it out of my mind even though it’s been a week.

My sister did that to me once, she attacked me physically at a party. I went no contact with her for 5 years.

Hi Jewels101 and welcome!
I’m so sorry you went through that horror with your sister! I think the worst part for me with BPD lil Sis is getting blind-sided like that. Because you aren’t prepared to protect or defend yourself. It’s definitely a huge BPD tactic to keep you off your guard and create chaos, because they are in such inner turmoil. For me the best thing was moving 2200 miles away, although she still works very hard to create drama whenever she can.
Glad you’re here!

Hi Jewels. It has been a couple of days since you posted and I am wondering how you are doing? Have you spoken with your sister since the blow-up on Christmas? How do you think you want to try to deal with this sort of behavior going forward?
