Thoughts on sending your child to a therapeutic boarding school...?

The costs are usually astronomical but if you could afford it would you send them?
Do you think they are a good choice? There's so much negative press surrounding them.

Does anyone have good intel about any schools in the northeast (US)?

Hello and welcome,
In my situation my son was in a therapeutic hospital back in 09-10 at RICA in Baltimore.  He then got transferred to Board of Childcare in Baltimore group home .
I would say the positives were that my son was so dysregulated that the regimented environment helped him.   In RICA, they had a school within that bored my son.  At the group home he was allowed to go to a public magnet school via bus.
I am thankful because my son learned grooming, how to do laundry, and his day was regimented and supervised.  I credit this time period
to  helping my son graduate high school and then graduating college even though he signed himself out at 18.

If you have the funds, perhaps start with an educational consultant. We have been happy so far - wilderness and now transitioning to a boarding school. We're happy because they were able to give a clear picture of my kid and picked a suitable school - she doesn't have addictions and isn't criminal but is emotional immature and too easily influenced and desperately needs healthy kids around her and so a school was picked based on that profile.

If I may, I've had 2 kids through Yellowstone boys and girls ranch in Montana. My son for odd and autism, and my youngest with (I believe) Bpd.  I think very highly of their staff and am very impressed with their results. Very caring people.
