hi, i am a 26 year old, single female currently living at home with my parents and 23 y/o younger sister who was diagnosed with BDP when she was about 18.
the last 6 years of my life have been completely nightmarish due to the trauma my sister has caused within our family. she has been a financial drain on the family, demanding money whenever she feels like it. she always threatens with self harm or suicide when my parents refuse to give her any and they fall for her manipulation every time. she keeps buying needless things, keeps switching the subject she studies/ wants to pursue all the time, for which my parents have to keep paying for. this one time, she wanted to join a really expensive course which my parents couldn't afford at that time, when they said so, she got to our roof and threatened to jump. fearing this, my parents sold some assets to pay for her course!
she was also implicated in a legal matter, for which my parents again had to pay exorbitantly to get her our of. she abuses pretty much all types of drugs and has a raging, out of control temper.
she's tried several times to physically harm me (even in front of guests!) and my parents keep telling me to lock my door while i sleep cuz they are worried she might do something in her anger. she takes to the internet and writes really long, and untrue posts about me and how i "treat her" every time there is even a small disagreement between us. when things are okay, they are great, but even the tiniest thing pisses her off and she goes completely crazy! i honestly cannot deal with this kind of unstability in my life and want to get away from her. i feel especially bad for my parents who try to deal with her, but also feel resentful cu everything in our lives in about HER alone.
she takes her and, a goes for therapy but the improvement is only a little and i just do not want to have to deal with her like this. i feel to helpless, sad and angry.

Hi Nikster,

This sounds just terrifying and so difficult. I’m worried about your safety, living in the same house as someone who has physically hurt you in the past. It sounds like you are in a crisis situation.

Would you consider calling the National Domestic Violence hotline (800-799-SAFE just to talk to someone who has expertise in this area? There are resources to help get you into a safer situation.

Please check back in to let us know you are ok.
