My brother was diagnosed with BPD a few months ago. He stayed in a mental hospital for a week and was supposed to be seeing a dr regularly after but the office was very unorganized. he has been getting worse again, constant drinking and then saying really hurtful stuff to his family. and we think it’s getting to the point where he may need to go to the hospital again because substance abuse on top of the BPD. I once got him to realize he needed to go get help, but this time i’m not sure how to approach it without him getting mad at me or anyone in my family. How do i do this?

Hi KS  Welcome new member (click to insert in post)

You asked a tough question. Does he have family and children? Usually unless he would come up with the decision himself, as you mentioned, there may be anger towards the family. Do you feel that his drinking is a way that he's trying to self sooth? That's common with a pwBPD.

What are your thoughts as to how you might be able to help him, and also for you to stay safe emotionally?
