VIDEO: "What is parental alienation?" Parental alienation is when a parent allows a child to participate or hear them degrade the other parent. This is not uncommon in divorces and the children often adjust. In severe cases, however, it can be devastating to the child. This video provides a helpful overview.

I think we've all seen the letters we want to send to the person with BPD in our lives... .it got me thinking what about a letter to ourselves.

I came across an article about writing a note to your future self and the positive effects it can have.   So I went digging a bit.

There's a website that allows you upload and send yourself one (or a bunch - your call) at a day and time you want.  www.m.futureme.org/

I'm drafting mine now and want to post it when I finish.  I thought it would be easy - I guess I have more to say to myself than I realized.  It's proving to be a provoking exercise and making me smile as I run through some of the things I want to say to myself.

Anybody else tried this?  It would be great to read other's letter to themself if you want to post them.

Ooo this is great GM! I am going to have a think and post myself some letters.

When I was much younger I wrote some letters (the old fashioned way) and wrote 'do not open until you are 30' etc on them, they were a laugh to read, and also a little sad, the things I thought I would be when I was that age. Or rather the haves I might have. So this time round it would definitely be focused on the bes and the dos, and not the haves!

This is a great idea GM!  Doing the right thing (click to insert in post)

Woody Allen once said that "Life is long lesson in humility" and he's right.

The cocky swagger of my 20's felt so real at the time. I honestly used to believe I was mature enough to handle everything; even be the boss at work - and that it was a kind of discrimination that young people couldn't be the CEO.

LOL. I am deadly serious! I was ambitious and convinced I had the tools there and then... .at 25

But life is funny like that. Just when you think there's nothing left to learn, along comes a lesson. And another. And then another. Until finally, you are fragile and not so sure of yourself. You've reached an age that might be appropriate to now be the CEO, but your confidence is shot and the war becomes an internal one instead of external.

And you look back at your 25 year old self and want to shout 'Fool!" for the amount we didn't know!

Another great quote I saw recently was ":)on't worry if you didn't learn the lesson the first time. It will come back until you do." It is one of the greatest truths of life.

If I look at how much I have learned about myself and life in the past 2 years, a letter to my future self would surely be read by someone changed again from who I am now. It's a great prac and I reckon I will hit that website to file mine very soon
